The approach
How Irika approaches gut health
Rule out red flags
Blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, trouble swallowing or a lasting change in bowel habits need a doctor first. Nutrition support starts once those are checked.
Patterns before restriction
A couple of weeks of notes often reveals more than a long list of banned foods ever could.
Guided low-FODMAP, done properly
For IBS, gastroenterology guidelines suggest a limited trial of a low-FODMAP diet. It's a short, three-phase process — reduce, reintroduce, personalise — not a forever diet.

Questions
Common questions about gut health
Is a low-FODMAP diet meant to be long term?
No. It's a short elimination phase followed by careful reintroduction, so you end up avoiding only what actually bothers you.
Should I take a probiotic?
Evidence is mixed and depends on the specific strain and symptom. Food comes first; if a probiotic trial makes sense for you, we'll plan it with a clear time limit.
Do I need a food intolerance test?
Many commercial intolerance tests, such as IgG panels, aren't reliable for diagnosis. A guided elimination and reintroduction usually gives more useful answers.
When should I see a doctor first?
If you notice blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or a change in bowel habits that doesn't settle, please see a doctor before changing your diet.
